Setting Sail

Lately I’ve been trying to get away from my normal days as much as possible, see a few far away friends, stay away for a weekend or two, just not to think about the crazy christmas weeks coming up. A romance of oneself as such. You know, just recently my friend submitted her art portfolio to a university and she’s been met with a strange feedback, her style is too romantic, she’s been told. Do you think it’s a just response? When did romance become not an art form? Have people lost all touch with the concept of it or can we only see it in the movies now? If her work wasn’t good enough I would understand, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I can’t help but think that it’s because people started to settle for an abstract concept of love; attachment, attachment to a believe or an idea, attachment to pain… Some cultures are better at grasping the idea of it than others as well, so that might be the case. And as for my friend, I admire her for not settling, and I hope you never do either.

I made this long skirt for my summer trips to the islands. It floats in the gasp of the lightest wind.

You look absolutely lovely! I’m ready to join you on that boat, I love sailing. Tell your friend not to worry and to stay true to her art! What an absolutely ridiculous comment, no substance. That’s the problem when you are an artist everyone has an opinion….
